The Top 3333 Most Essential Classic Rock Songs Of All Time ... The Bullet Point Tracks
This countdown was designed to run at various lengths depending on what different Classic Rock Radio Stations across the country felt their market would support.
This weekend's countdown encompassed The Top 50 Tracks ...
But it could just as easily been The Top 100 ... or Top 200 ... or Top 500 ... or Top 1000 ... or Top 2000 or Top 2500 ... or Top 3000! (A radio station would have to be pretty bold air the entire TOP 3333 ... but we're still hoping that this could happen on some Internet Station somewhere looking to lock up their audience for a month or so!)
Anyway, here are where some of these OTHER Key Tracks fell in the countdown ...
#100 - ONE OF THESE NIGHTS by The Eagles
#200 - SLEDGEHAMMER - Peter Gabriel
#500 - EVERYDAY PEOPLE by Sly and the Family Stone
#1000 - CUM ON FEEL THE NOISE - Quiet Riot
#2000 - CALLING DR. LOVE by Kiss
#2500 - DON'T BRING ME DOWN - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
#3000 - BOYS by The Beatles
It's all countdown from this point forward ...
Watch for brand new postings at 9 am, Noon, 3 pm, 6 pm and 9 pm as we complete The Top 15 Most Essential Classic Rock Songs as determined by your votes!

For All Of You Still Out There Rockin' At Midnight ...
... Here are a few more "extras" to keep you goin'!!!
What are we doing???
Why we're Rockin' at Midnight, of course! (#1648)
And now that we've made it past The Midnight Hour (by the way, that Wilson Pickett classic finished at #2060), we're Living After Midnight! (#905)
Remember when The Doobie Brothers were ALL over Classic Rock Radio? Songs like "Long Train Runnin'" and "China Grove" used to make our over-played list all the time ... and "Listen To The Music" wasn't far behind them.
But the tide has turned since then ...
And while The Doobies still managed to rank 17 songs in The Top 3000 (and will even gain entry into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame this year ... assuming, of course, that they're ever allowed to induct them!), those Top Three titles now rank in reverse order at #'s 197, 178 and 149 ... all still VERY respectable showings within The Top 200.
But we're saluting Midnight Songs this hour ... and they don't get much better than this one ...
"South City Midnight Lady" (from their "Captain And Me" album) ...
It comes in at #1293.
The Rolling Stones placed 40 songs in our Top 3333 Countdown ...
And this one came in at #1194.
I've never gotten tired of .38 Special's hits "Hold On Loosely" and "Caught Up In You" ... (#155 and #184) ...
And we hear one or the other ... or both ... nearly every single day ...
But they recorded a few other songs worthy of some airplay, too ...
Like THIS one ... "Rockin' Into The Night" ... one of their SIX chart hits co-written by our FH Buddy Jim Peterik. (In fact, his old band Survivor actually recorded this one first!) It came in at #1134.

A Couple Of Extras
Without question, the two songs that made the biggest impression while we were putting this whole thing together were these two ...
Classic Rock Fans LOVE these songs ... and they want to hear them once in awhile ... simple as that.
You are doing your listeners a complete disservice by ignoring these tunes.
First up ...
"Sounds Of Silence" by Disturbed ... one of the most powerful performances I have ever heard in my life.
This was never one of my favorite Simon and Garfunkel tunes, even 'tho it was the one that launched their career.
But THIS rendition chills me to the bone ...
It attacks my very soul ... every time I hear it.
But without a doubt it was "Stealin'" by Uriah Heep that garnered the most favorable response.
"Why did they ever stop playing this one?"
And it's true ... at one time it was in heavy rotation on ALL of the Classic Rock Stations ...
And it was a "Must Learn" for any band out there who wanted a chance to perform their "covers" for a live audience at any of the clubs and bars around Everytown, USA.
Yet somehow it just fell off the radar.
But not with OUR readers. They remember ... and they know what they like.
Any programmers out there reading this today should add this one to their playlist NOW ... and let it play freely every now and then. It'll put YOUR station head and shoulders above the competition ... and might even let your listeners know that YOU love Classic Rock just as much as THEY do!!! (kk)
For the record, Disturbed's version of "Sounds Of Silence" came in at #2703 ... while Uriah Heep managed a #775 showing with "Stealin'".

The Top 50 Most Essential Classic Rock Songs Of All Time (#39 - #36)
The countdown continues this morning with songs #39 thru #36
Traffic had nine songs make our Top 3333 List ... everything from "Dear Mr. Fantasy" and "The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys" to the instrumental "Glad" and the original version of "Feeling Alright."
Giving us distinguished players like Steve Winwood, Dave Mason and Jim Capaldi, you'd think they'd be held in a little higher regard all these years later.
Two tracks that USED to get a fair amount of airplay that you just don't hear anymore would have to be "Rock And Roll Stew" and "Light Up Or Leave Me Alone," both coming from the "Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys" album from 1972.
Here's our small effort to change that. ("Rock And Roll Stew" placed at #2280 on our final list ... while "Light Up Or Leave Me Alone" came in at #2924.)
We threw in a couple of others for good measure as well. (kk)
(This one always reminded me of John Lennon for some reason)
(And this one of The Grateful Dead!)
But this one has always been my personal favorite ...

Some More Great Extras (And Forgotten Favorites)
#2890 - Footstompin' Music - Grand Funk Railroad
#2701 - Echoes Of Love - The Doobie Brothers
#2620 - Gotta Serve Somebody - Bob Dylan
#2315 - Medicine Jar by Paul McCartney and Wings
When we first featured this one as part of the countdown we received a few emails from readers perplexed by this track ... "That sure doesn't sound like Paul McCartney to me!" was the most common response. That's because this track came off of the Wings "Venus And Mars" album ... and was spear-headed by Guitarist Jimmy McCullough (who, ironically, would die of a drug overdose a few years later.) McCartney placed 41 songs on The Top 3333 Countdown as a solo artist ... In addition to the 140 he placed there with The Beatles ... Making him, by far, the most prolific (and popular) Classic Rock Artist of All Time. But this one rocks like no other McCartney tune ... And it was a BLAST watching Wings perform this in concert while Jimmy was still in the band. (His other LP track, "Wino Junko" from the "Wings At The Speed Of Sound" album, also garnered a few votes ... but not enough to make the final cut. (You heard Macca's highest charting solo hit earlier in the countdown ... "Live And Let Die" came in at #40 in your Top 3333 All Time Favorites.)
